Offenburg

The rede­si­gned per­ma­nent exhi­bi­ti­on about the archaeo­lo­gy in the regi­on, loca­ted in the Rit­ter­haus Muse­um, is main­ly dedi­ca­ted to the num­e­rous fin­dings of the Roman Age. In the his­to­ric cent­re one of three mili­ta­ry forts was excava­ted. Like the mili­ta­ry forts in Zuns­wei­er and Ram­mer­s­wei­er, this mili­ta­ry fort ser­ved to secu­re the Roman rou­te that was built around 73/74 AD from Argentorate/Strasbourg to Ara Flaviae/Rottweil. Clo­se to Ram­mer­s­wei­er, you can visit today the res­to­red foun­da­ti­on walls of the small fort spa. In the second cen­tu­ry, in the area of the his­to­ric cent­re of Offen­burg, a civil Roman sett­le­ment had deve­lo­ped that was in exis­tence up to the third century.
