Offenburg

The redesigned permanent exhibition about the archaeology in the region, located in the Ritterhaus Museum, is mainly dedicated to the numerous findings of the Roman Age. In the historic centre one of three military forts was excavated. Like the military forts in Zunsweier and Rammersweier, this military fort served to secure the Roman route that was built around 73/74 AD from Argentorate/Strasbourg to Ara Flaviae/Rottweil. Close to Rammersweier, you can visit today the restored foundation walls of the small fort spa. In the second century, in the area of the historic centre of Offenburg, a civil Roman settlement had developed that was in existence up to the third century.
